Welcome to Wàwàtesì

Wàwàtesì is Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini’s Algonquin cultural discovery project for the downtown Bancroft section of the Hastings Heritage Trail, Shawashkong Millennium Park, Churchill/Sparrow Park and Eagles Nest Park.

Improving safety with solar lighting.

Wàwàtesì is bringing new solar lighting to Bancroft’s parks and trails, so people can walk, cycle and gather safely after dark and through every season. The Municipal Office, North Hastings Heritage Museum, Riverside Chateau Seniors Centre and many local businesses lie along the Heritage Trail, with many more just moments away.

Increasing accessibility.

Wàwàtesì is adding solar lights and benches along Bancroft’s parks and trails, so people of all ages and abilities can get around comfortably, rest along the way, and enjoy these spaces year-round.

A living, vibrant translation of Algonquin culture.

Wàwàtesì facilitates the recovery and reclamation of our language in natural spaces with important contemporary significance and deep historical roots.
